Remodeling Your Website Katie Desmond

As my husband and I have been in the process of buying a new home for our family, we have been on a Chip and Joanna Fixer Upper binge. With their quirky sense of humor, the jaw-dropping transformations and the “how is everything so cheap in Waco, Texas?!” It’s easy to get addicted.

Of course, as we go through this major life change and are about to take on our own fixer upper, it got me thinking about our business and some of the recent work that we have been doing for our clients.

Traditionally, we see about a 3-5 year return on investment (ROI) on the websites that we design and develop. We believe that this all stems from the custom approach we take to really understand our clients’ business goals and objectives. That, in combination with a solid back-end, sound CMS and the flexibility to scale the site, really helps to drive these results.

Most recently, we have taken this one step further. We all know about the exponential growth of mobile and how it has impacted the online space. (You don’t need me to tell you that.) But I am proud to say that we have been able to make the most of some of our clients’ sites simply by leaving the back-end in place and really just focusing on the front-end design of the site. Much like a house, we can look at a site and see that it still has the bones in place; that is, the back-end works great, our clients are still happy with the CMS and it's secure. However, perhaps the design could use an update and it would be better served if it was optimized for mobile. Much like Chip and Joanna, we’ll take a fresh look at the site, focus on the layout, maybe shift some “rooms” around and come up with a modern, clean and engaging look and feel.

It may seem hard to believe, but we have done this successfully for our clients. One of the most impressive transformations we have had is with Starwood Hotels’ Global Development site that we just launched in the fall. As a seven year old site we knew that the CMS still worked well, but it needed to be optimized for mobile and could really use a fresh coat of paint. But don’t let us be the judge, the before and after is really impressive.

Like Chip and Joanna, we take what was once great, and make it even greater. With just a few tweaks and enhancements, and a lot of creative thinking, we get to provide clients with what feels like an entirely new site. We create the incredible.
